A few years ago, before we moved to preach in seldom & unassigned territory, I was friends with lovely couple at our congregation that were learning Karen. We lived in a territory where a lot of people came as refugees & so of course our congregation took full advantage of the opportunity to reach out and refresh our new neighbors!
While we didn’t speak Karen, my sister and I would accompany our friend to her Bible studies & Return Visits since they had such a small service group locally. It as close to a missionary experience as I’ve ever had! They had us into their homes, we sat on the floor together & my dear friend would use her english Bible Teach book while they used their Karen one to talk about Jehovah.
Even though she was still learning, she honestly did such an amazing job! It was so nice to see how Jehovah used her to bring comfort and good news to people who’d been displaced from their homes.
One thing I remember most about her (aside from her love of Starbucks’ Caramel Macchiatos) is how seriously she took her assignment of learning the language. She would show me notebooks full of notes & text and phrases & pronunciations – hints and clues that would help her to remember this new and foreign language. (And this was before the JW Language app!)
She and her husband were a great example in how to display a missionary spirit even if your foreign territory is right in your hometown. And I’ll never forget the memories and the great experiences I had with them.
Today’s printable is inspired by the memory of that friend. It’s a printable language learning helper sheet for anyone who’s looking to reach out into a local foreign language group. I hope that it will will be helpful to your new “hometown missionary” journey.

Hello! I’m a regular pioneer and I’m currently helping the Arabic & Persian pre-group congregation with canvassing work in my area. Would love to use foreign language sheets.
