An open journal with handwritten text in black ink and a wooden fountain pen resting on the left page, overlaid with the title "How to Create a Spiritual GOALS PAGE IN YOUR JOURNAL".

Spiritual goals are easy to think about and surprisingly easy to forget once everyday life gets busy.

You may decide that you want to improve your personal study or work on a particular quality. A few weeks later, you realize you have barely thought about the goal since you made it. A spiritual goals page gives you one place to keep those intentions where you can see them.

Think of it as a journal page devoted to where you would like to grow spiritually and what you want to work toward with Jehovah’s help.

Choose a Few Goals

You do not need to fill the page with everything you would like to improve. Choose a few things that genuinely matter to you right now.

Maybe you have a goal connected to the ministry. You might want to become more consistent with personal study or work on a quality you have been praying about.

You could also choose a scripture that you want to apply in a specific area of your life. Giving your attention to a few goals makes the page useful without making it overwhelming.

Make the Goals Specific

Write down what you actually want to do. If your goal is “better personal study,” think about what that means for you. Maybe you want to choose one subject each month and research it.  A ministry goal could involve starting a Bible study or reaching out to someone you have not seen recently.

When you know what you are working toward, it becomes easier to decide what you can do next.

Add a Scripture

Choose a scripture that connects with what you are working on. You might already have one in mind because it inspired the goal in the first place. If not, spend some time researching and find a verse that helps you think about the goal in the right way.

Write the scripture on the page where you will see it whenever you revisit your goals. You can also leave room underneath it for thoughts you want to add later.

Make the Page Visual

This is where you can have a little fun with it. Add a photograph or illustration that reminds you of your goal. You can use lettering for a word you want to focus on or add a small piece of paper with a scripture written on it.

If your goal involves the ministry, you might include an image that reminds you why you love sharing the good news. A goal involving a Christian quality could have a word or image that helps you remember what you are working toward.

Choose things that mean something to you. The page only needs to make sense to the person using it.

Add One Next Step

Under each goal, write one thing you can actually do. If you want to improve your Bible reading routine, your next step might be choosing a time that works well. If you want to work on patience, you could choose a scripture to study and pray specifically about that quality.

You can update the next step whenever you complete it. This keeps your goals connected to things you can actually work on in everyday life.

Keep the Page Somewhere You Will See It

A spiritual goals page is not very helpful if you make it once and never see it again. Put it near the beginning of your journal or mark the page with a tab. Every few weeks, take a look at it while you are doing personal study.

Think about what has been going well and whether there is anything you need to adjust. You may also realize that one of your goals is no longer where you need to focus your attention. It is fine to change it.

Record Your Progress

Leave a little room to add notes as you work toward your goals.

Write down when you reach a milestone or notice progress in an area you have been working on. If Jehovah answers a prayer connected to one of your goals, record what happened. You can also add a new scripture when you find one that helps you.

Those notes will eventually give you a record of the work you put into your spiritual growth and the ways Jehovah helped you along the way.

Start With the Life You Have Right Now

Your spiritual goals page does not need to represent everything you hope to accomplish someday.

Think about where you are spiritually right now. Ask yourself what you would genuinely like to strengthen and what deserves some attention. Then give those goals a page in your journal.

Keep it somewhere you can return to and update it as things change. Over time, you will be able to look back and see the goals you reached and the areas where you continued to grow with Jehovah’s help.
